David Scher of The Employment Law Group® on Citigroup Whistleblower Sherry Hunt

Attorney David Scher, principal of The Employment Law Group® law firm, discusses Citigroup whistleblower, Sherry Hunt, who disclosed to the government that Citibank was committing hundreds of millions of dollars in mortgage fraud, which led to the return of over $100 million to the government and, ultimately, taxpayers.

When whistleblower Sherry Hunt discovered fraudulent mortgage lending and reporting practices at Citigroup, she notified her supervisors of the suspected fraud. Her managers, however, tried to cover up the fraud, leading Ms. Hunt to turn to the government with the information.

Whistleblowers who report fraud (including mortgage fraud, corporate tax fraud, government contractor fraud, Medicare fraud, etc.) are often entitled to receive a portion of the funds that the government recovers as a result of the whistleblower's disclosure. In this instance, Sherry Hunt was paid $31 million for her courageous efforts as a whistleblower.
